Story and Values

Born from the peace of the wilderness
Mahlakaarro's Korpiratsu started in October 2024, when life took us from the city to the country.
The move wasn't just a change of address, it was a complete change of direction.
Previously, my business was heavily focused on photography and horses were above all my beloved hobby. When I got horses in my own stable, on my own land and in my own everyday life, something fell into place. The stable business began to emerge almost unnoticed. It grew from the need to do things in my own way and with respect for the well-being of the horses.
The reception has been warm and even surprisingly enthusiastic. Regular visitors come to the stable from far away, and the community around it is constantly growing. Still, the most important thing is not growth, but that everything is done on the horses' terms
Horses first, always

The foundation of the stable is the horses. They are not just colleagues for us, but friends and family members.
I want every horse to live a life that is as typical of its species as possible. Good feeding, the opportunity to move freely indoors and outdoors, herd life and friendships are everyday life. The horses live in a yard and live together as a herd, as they should.
The exercise provided by humans is diverse. We don't just ride, we do many things with the horses. No horse goes to work several times a day. Usually, a horse has no more than one rider or group per day, and everyone has regular days off.
The condition of the horses is closely monitored at the stable. Camera surveillance helps ensure that everyone eats, rests and moves normally. Even the smallest changes are responded to quickly and the horses receive professional care if necessary.
Well-being is not an added value for us. It is the foundation.

Our value
Safety
Calm and proactive action with both horses and people.
Respect
A horse is a living creature with its own feelings and needs. At the same time, we respect each customer as an individual.
Individuality
Every rider, visitor and horse is encountered as their own person.
Closeness to nature
Our activities take place in a peaceful enviroment rounded by northern forests, listening to the rhythm of nature.
Small-scale
We do not aim for masses, but for meaningful encounters.

Practical matters at the stable

Our stable is a member of the Finnish Equestrian Association and we follow its recommendations in all our activities.
The stable has helmets to borrow, but we recommend bringing your own safety vest. Please dress according to the weather and choose shoes with heels suitable for riding and non-slip trousers.
The stable is the home of horses. We hope for calm behavior and consideration for others. You are not allowed to enter the stable area without a separate agreement.
Booked services must be canceled no later than two days before the reserved time. Late or non-cancelled reservations will be charged the full price of the service.
Payment methods are invoice, MobilePay, sports benefits Edenred, Epassi and Smartum and cash. Unfortunately, there is no card payment option.
The company has valid liability insurance for all horse activities. However, we recommend that every rider has personal leisure or accident insurance.

About me
Who am I
Viivi Mahlakaarto
I am a soon to be 30 year old stable owner and horse professional.
My passion for horses began when I was 6 years old in Oulu. During my childhood, I actively visited different stables and gained extensive experience in different operating methods and environments. When I was in middle school, I started working in the horse industry, working at camps as an adult and helping with daily work at the stables.
Later, rental horses came along, through which I was able to deepen my skills in addition to riding lessons. Working with different stables and horses helped me to understand what kind of operating environment and working method suited me and how important it is to find a unique, functional whole for each horse and person.
I graduated as a riding instructor in 2016. I worked for a while at riding schools, giving group lessons, but I soon realized that I wanted to focus on more individual work. In large groups, teaching easily became superficial and did not correspond to my own vision of high-quality coaching.
With this, I moved on to giving private coaching, riding horses, and helping with their training, also from the ground up.
My journey with horses
In 2019, my friend and I acquired our first horse together. There were many challenges along the way, but it was through them that I learned a lot, especially about horse behavior and how they express pain and discomfort in different ways.
My own horses taught me to understand horses deeper than the surface. Previously, I had focused more on performance, riding and training, without a real understanding of the horse's experience. This realization changed my thinking permanently.
In 2022, I bought my first completely own horse, Kirijori. That began a journey that still continues.
In 2023, Kamu joined the herd, and later Kuu, and together we moved to our current home in 2024.
At the beginning of 2025, I had to give up Kamu, but in the summer of the same year, Viljami joined our family. Every horse has taught me something valuable and I believe that learning never ends in this sport. That's what makes horses and this work so meaningful.
Training and continuous learning
I have deepened my knowledge by studying social pedagogical equine activities in 2025. At the beginning of 2026, I also started farrier studies.
I have also participated in several courses related to, among other things:
horse health
saddles and equipment
training
massage
I consider continuous learning and an open mind important so that I can offer horses the best and most comprehensive well-being possible.
